However, despite promising in its 100-Day program that it would set up an All-Party Committee to present proposals for electoral reforms, the Cabinet spokesman said that the next general elections would be held under a new electoral system.The new government had said that it would hold the election on of April 23.
Kariyawasam said this date might change.
“According to the 100-day programme we will go ahead with the election but the date might be slightly changed. We are discussing it,” Kariyawasam said.
Also he confirmed the speculation that Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) ministers will contest under UNP ticket.
“There are a few members of the SLFP who wanted to contest with us. We will give them a chance but, these are not who left the party earlier.” he said.
